Change and Transition
The times are changing. Life is changing. Circumstances are changing. We are changing. We are waking up from a numbing fog. The winds of change are blowing away the veil that obscured non-physical reality. Once hidden truths are being revealed. The awakening process is simultaneously both painful and exhilarating.
We are a bride in a new world. Layers of deception are being peeled away. Past beliefs, goals, and definitions of ourselves are being challenged. Our ego may be caught off guard. But the transition from illusion to an expanded reality and a deeper understanding of our soul, self-awareness, and maturity brings a sense of relief, happiness, and freedom. This is what we said we wanted. It is happening!
It is no longer possible to stay lost in a mental fantasy where we believe that everything can be perfect and that nothing has to change. That flimsy bubble has burst. We are each in our own way experiencing regeneration and renewal, including not only life style changes, but a complete mental, emotional, and spiritual overhaul.
What illusions do you need to let go of? What dreams do you need to actualize?
Evolutionary Planetary Alignments
There are many planetary alignments indicating that we are at the end of an evolutionary cycle and at the beginning of a new one. We are in the midst of a transition both globally and personally. We are being affected in many different ways. It is important at this time of transition to stay as conscious as we can: (1) notice, (2) don’t resist, (3) welcome something new, (4) allow the unknown to work for you, and (5) embrace the next phase of your life.
In this blog I discuss
- Virgo’s wise guidance and
- a turning point in the 20 year Jupiter-Saturn cycle.
Then I offer guidelines for your personal self-evaluation process.
Learn from Virgo’s Wisdom
Every 28 days there is a new moon in another zodiac sign. The moon cycles the quickest through the zodiac. There are many evolutionary cycles. Some are much longer. They all deliver signals of deep meaning. In some magical way, they all work together to point us in the direction of evolutionary change – to our heart!
September 2 was a new moon at 11° Virgo. The night sky is dark for several days before and after the new moon. There is no moon. We are in the dark. During this transition, ‘balsamic phase’ between the old and a new cycle, we can be extra receptive to messages communicated to us by our body, feelings, intuition, and heart. New Moons are potent times to rest and listen deeply to messages from our soul.
While the Sun shines in Virgo (August 23 – September 22) we want to take advantage of the important lessons that Virgo teaches us. Virgo highlights simplicity, service, and wholeness. Known for the attention that it gives to details, Virgo points out a great truth – small changes can make a big difference. Subtle, yet significant, adjustments that we can make include
- focusing on the positive
- avoid complaining
- be in gratitude for what we have and what is working.
Virgo seeks to define what is essential, nurturing, healing, and functional. And to eliminate or change what is superfluous, unimportant, unhealthy, and not working. Virgo specializes in prioritizing, setting clear doable intentions, and getting the necessary work done.
The Virgo archetype represents a time in our life when we graduate from innocence to wisdom, which comes from our ability to discern, reflect on, and digest our life experiences in a new way. Virgo represents an inevitable rite of passage from immaturity to adulthood.
Virgo is about a young maiden holding a stalk of wheat morphing into a priestess earth mother.
Virgo is about finding wholeness, feeling complete, and being self-satisfied. Virgo is the independent woman (or man) who walks in the world and relates to others with self-knowing, self-confidence, and self-love.
Virgo is the soul-directed being whose security comes from being at one with her/his soul and the Divine Mother. She is at peace because she needs no mate, nothing outside herself, to give her what she has found within her own heart. She has fallen in love with her soul.
Jupiter in Gemini Square Saturn in Pisces
The Virgo new moon opposed the August 19 Saturn-Jupiter square, which has intensified our need to ask and find answers to key questions: “Who am I now? What do I really want? What can and will I do to get it?’
It has been almost 4 years since December 2020, when Jupiter and Saturn met at 0° Aquarius. Their conjunction initiated a new 20 year Jupiter-Saturn cycle, which is in the process of reshaping and re-structuring our lives. When these two planets come into another major relationship during their 20 year cycle (i.e. square, opposition, trine) it is time to examine how our life is unfolding, and make adjustments for our future course of action.
The first major milestone is the waxing (expanding) square. August 19 Jupiter in Gemini was in this square formation with Saturn in Pisces (both at 17°). Because of their retrograde movement, Jupiter and Saturn will form 3 exact squares in the next ten months. The second square is December 24 at 14° Gemini and Pisces. The third is June 15, 2025 when Jupiter is at 1° Cancer and Saturn is at 1° Aries. At the exact squares there is an energetic peak, but the themes of this challenging square are active for the entire period – from now through the end of June 2025.
Jupiter and Saturn Agendas
Jupiter and Saturn are the two largest planets in our solar system. They orbit between Mars (the last personal planet) and the outer impersonal planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto). They are called the social planets because their themes are related to how we interact in the world, our profession, our projects, our visibility, our role in society, and our reputation. And how we deal with all of the above.
The relationship between these two planets, as applied to our personal lives, continuously cause us to learn, grow, and figure out how to navigate our human experiment in physical reality. At pivotal times (like now during a square) we are obliged to undergo a major re-assessment.
Jupiter represents our goals, dreams, beliefs, desires, and how we want to live our lives. Saturn represents what is realistically achievable, and the constraints of time, energy, and resources. When Jupiter and Saturn confront us with a square, we have to figure out
- what can be realistically achieved and
- what we actually want to achieve given the constraints of physical reality.
Squares Require Making Choices
Squares generate intense energy because we are at a crossroads and must decide which direction to turn. Squares leave no room for ambiguity. Squares oblige us to make difficult, and often uncomfortable, choices. They also unleash motivation to take action. They force (or inspire) us to ask ‘What do I really want?’ Our honesty serves as a catalyst to come up with creative and constructive ways to make necessary changes, so we can move forward with more ease.
Squares are an important time for ‘market research.’ Saturn’s practical requirements must be applied to our Jupiter dreams.
Whatever was initiated at the conjunction at the end of 2020 (and the beginning of 2021) is now up for serious evaluation. What is working? What is not working? What should we continue? What needs to be dropped? What should we change? What new options can be explored?
If what we are doing is not giving optimal results, how can we change our strategy? What new opportunities are presenting themselves that we need to say yes to? Have we dreamed too small, or too big?
Gemini and Pisces
Fortunately Gemini and Pisces are mutable signs – by their nature they are flexible and adaptable. They are better able to embrace change without the drama of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) or the resistance of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.)
To identify how the first and second squares influence you (between now and the end of 2024) and the arenas of life that will be most impacted, locate
- the houses in your natal chart that are ruled by or have planets in Gemini and Pisces,
- planets in other mutable signs (Virgo and Sagittarius) between 10 and 21 degrees, and
- rising sign and other angles in mutable signs and between 10-21 degrees.
We will all be impacted in some way. Maybe we just need to make some adjustments. Maybe we need a complete overhaul.
Maybe we don’t really want that big house, if that means that we compromise our health while earning the money to buy it, take care of it, and pay the taxes. On the other hand, there is always something that our soul came here to do, which if we don’t at least try to do it, we will have regrets. Go for it and see what happens. No one wants to leave lamenting ‘I didn’t even try.’
Our sweet spot may not be defined by Saturn’s criteria for success – realization of goals as defined by ambition, achievement, and recognition. Maybe Jupiter wins out this time as we choose what brings us happiness and satisfaction. Our success may be more related to a sense of adventure and discovery that gives meaning to our life and awakens connection and joy in our heart.
Reassessment, Clarity, and Insights
Both Virgo and Gemini are ruled by Mercury. Mercury and its higher octave Uranus help us to see things from an expanded and multi-dimensional perspective. When our mind is open, we can welcome in life-changing insights. Opportunities can appear out of the blue. Magic and Miracles happen. And we are able to notice.
First and always we need clarity. Here are guidelines for your personal reassessment.
- Identify what is most important to you.
- List your priorities in order of value to you and your life.
- Realistically enumerate the gaps between your goals and our current situation.
- Identify practical action that you can realistically take.
- Be in thoughtful action, one step at a time.
- Each day, acknowledge what you have done.
- Evaluate how you have moved through your day – stressed/anxious or relaxed in the flow.
As we examine our priorities, we gain gain valuable insights, which make it easier to make subtle adjustments that (1) open the way to move forward., (2) stimulate our creative potential, and (3) help us recognize, embrace, and align with our heart’s desires.
Meditation for Guidance
In peaceful silence. Place your hands on your heart or in prayer pose.
(1) Ask for help from the Universe, your guides, your soul, and the Divine Mother,
(2) Listen to silence. Your intuition will speak when it wishes.
Commit to:
(3) Follow the guidance you receive.
(4) Be patient and grateful.
(5) Monitor messages and results as they unfold.
(6) Pay attention to how you are feeling, especially how you feel in your heart.
Something is working if you are less afraid and more relaxed and trusting. Maybe achieving this state of inner peace and joy is what you really want.

Your Daily Practice – Everyday Rest in Your Heart
Every day we need to take time to slow down, listen to silence, and pay attention to the vast space within. We open ourselves to receive guidance and make ourselves available for opportunities that we might otherwise miss.
In silent mediation we can get in touch with our inner void and find that it isn’t empty! Uncertainty, not knowing, and deep-seated confusion can only be addressed when we experience that something inside us is not only supporting us, but who we really are. We can let go of the ‘single solution’ (partner, money, better job, new house) will fix everything.
We can turn on our heart light, shine it for ourselves, and be able to rest in our heart.
