Guided by optimistic and expansionist Jupiter, Sagittarius is an adventurer who is willing and eager to explore the unknown.
November 21 – December 20 – the Sun Shines in Sagittarius
Fire sign Sagittarius must meet the challenges of physical reality to reach its spiritual goals. In its naive state, its fiery temperament, recklessness, and gullibility can get it into trouble. Sagittarius is sometimes compared to the Fool in the Tarot Deck — unconsciously skipping forward and soon to meet the abyss after falling from the ever closer cliff.
Donald Trump’s Moon is in Sagittarius. (His Sun sign is Gemini.) A lot of people have Moon in Sagittarius, including myself. At whatever level of consciousness our Sagittarius operates, we seek (and are presented with) new experiences that can awakening us to both personal and universal truths and help us find meaning and purpose in life.
Sagittarius is represented by the Archer, whose arrow designates our direction and serves as our compass. While the Sun is in Sagittarius, we are invited to examine where we are headed. Where is our arrow pointed? Is that where we really want to go?
Life is about constantly making choices and regularly examining the results, including how and why we make the choices we do. The path of the Sagittarius Archer is about moving out of the role of the Fool and becoming more conscious about how we operate in life. Our awakening process involves identifying the motivations, assumptions, and beliefs that determine how we set our compass and where we direct our arrow.
The directives and messages we receive from our parents, teachers, culture, and religion imprint us with conditioning that positions our arrow in a certain direction. Maturity and self-empowerment require examining this conditioning and identifying where we still follow this programming. We need to identify what works for us and let go of what doesn’t. And even more important, we need to wean ourselves off of reliance on external authorities, parental figures, experts, and others’ opinions and train ourselves to listen to the wisdom of our own heart. For only our heart knows the truth of our soul. Only our heart can calibrate our arrow in the most advantageous direction for our unique life.
November 29 – Sagittarius New Moon
4:18 AM PST (12:18 GMT)
New Moons offer us openings to recalibrate our intentions, direction, and goals relative to the zodiac sign of each New Moon. At the Sagittarius New Moon there is an opening to shift course as needed to align with a purposeful and fruitful future that we wish to create.
The Sagittarius New Moon is animated by a potent cardinal t-square involving Pluto and Venus in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, and Jupiter in Libra. The cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) take action. T-squares form squares and oppositions. Squares require a shift of perception in order to take appropriate action. Oppositions require a synthesis of the strengths of the energies involved so that we can move out of conflict into collaboration.
The missing energy (empty leg) of any t-square represents the archetype that can help us make the best choices and find pathways to resolve our issues. In this case Cancer adds an attitude of kindness, caring, and nurturing. The Mother energy encourages us to honor our feelings, respect our (and others’) needs, and approach our challenges from the vantage point of including everyone as part of the global family.
The basic themes of the Sagittarius New Moon include
(1) examining where we have abdicated our authority,
(2) taking responsibility for the choices we make (and have made),
(3) being conscious of the consequences of our actions before we act.
(4) learning how to more effectively and efficiently use our fire energy for creation (not destruction) and for heartfelt passion (not frustration and anger.)
To do the above, we must identify the attitudes and beliefs that control our energy, choices, actions, and consciousness. Basically we have to be seriously honest with ourselves in order to direct our arrow from our heart. As we remove the blinders of our conditioning, we can aim our arrow toward our spiritual truth and soul mission.
December 13-14 – Gemini Full Moon
at 22 degrees 4:05 PM PST (0:05 GMT)
Air sign Gemini thrives on activity, talking, and thinking. Sagittarius wants to find the purpose and meaning of life. The Gemini Full Moon positions the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity pair to confront some very basic questions —
(1) What distracts us from looking deeper into the meaning of the events in our lives?
(2) What details, attitudes, and opinions are preventing us from seeing the bigger picture?
(3) Can we stop talking so much and take time to simply listen? (to the silence within, to our hearts, and to others)
(4) Can we recognize how our obsessive thinking distances us from feeling and being present to what is going on in the moment?
(5) Will we actually take time to simply feel the energies in our body, without thinking and analyzing what they mean? Listening and feeling are about making ourselves available to receive messages and support. How available are you?
