Leo New Moon 2020

When the Sun and Moon join at every new moon, they combine to focalize the energies of a particular sign. The Leo New Moon reminds us that we are light that can fully shine only when we open our hearts to love. We are invited to identify what blocks us from opening our hearts and shining our light. Self-trust and self-love are required.

August 18 – 19 – New Moon In Leo

7:41 PM PDT (2:41 GMT) at 26 degrees

The Leo New Moon is conjunct Mercury, delivering insights about how to move forward from our hearts. (Mercury speeds thought the zodiac signs when it is direct. Mercury is in Leo from August 6-20.)

At this new moon, there is an abundance of fire energy. Mars in Aries trines the Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Leo, energizing our creativity, passion, assertiveness, and courage to take initiatives to support ourselves. Aries seeds a lot of ideas. Leo makes definite plans and focuses on managing our creations to completion.

We Are Always Creating

Leo is about our creativity and self-expression, which spring from our authentic self as we awaken to our own light and let it shine into everything we do in our lives. Our Leo is like the Sun that effortless shines warmth and light just because that is its basic nature and thus what it does naturally.

For Leo, creativity is about doing something unique that is both birthed from and opens our heart. Creativity is not about being noticed, remunerated, or doing something that no one else has done, although these happen as a consequence of our creations. Creativity bubbles up from and expresses pure love. And creativity is not just about tangible results. We each create with our thoughts, actions, projections, and energy field. Never underestimate the power of a shift in perspective and a transformation in how we feel to create magic and miracles.

And never underestimate the power of self-acceptance. With a sweet dose of self-love, we can become more aware of our own talents. When we acknowledge ourselves and validate our own desires, needs, and preferences, we feel more in tune with ourselves and enjoy feeling more cozy inside our own skin.

Place your hands on your heart and go deep into the feeling. The warmth in the spine at the level of the heart can be very pleasurable. Self-love is sweet. Enjoy your experience!

Retrogrades and Re-evaluation

With six celestial bodies retrograde (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron), the Leo new moon brings up personal issues requiring personal reflection and regrouping in our social sphere. We may feel destabilized, which  indicates the need for re-evaluation, letting go, and restructuring. It is healthy, healing, and useful to back off and pause when it doesn’t make sense to try to bulldoze forward.

It is natural to feel unsure and insecure when the situations we are facing are out of our hands and in the hands of the planetary players of a higher power.  There are many internal shifts to be integrated and external situations to handle. Depending on how we process what is going on, the direct movement of Jupiter on September 12, Saturn on September 29, and Pluto on October 4 can be supportive in moving forward.

Discovering Your Uniqueness

This new moon in Leo reminds us that we are all on a journey of Self-discovery. Although in the past learning has focused on information, now learning is about knowing ourselves and how we fit into society in a creative and meaningful way for us, everyone else, and the world.

We can use the Leo new moon to be present to our own uniqueness. Absolutely avoid any explanation, justification, or critique. Feel yourself shining your light and enjoy how that feels. When in doubt about what to do, tune into your heart light and listen for guidance. Silence and a warm feeling usually come first. Guidance appears when your heart is ready to speak to you.

Feeling and listening to our heartbeat, we tune into the part of us that links up with what is infinite and eternal. Our heart is a portal that connects us to Source – to Love.

Meditation on Your Heartbeat

In the following meditation, if you cannot feel your pulse at your wrist, shift positions until you find a place where you can maintain a constant and deepening connection with your pulse. This is important because feeling your pulse as a constant rhythm in your body activates your mind/body connection and brings you to the experience that your mind is in your body and mind/body are one.

For Concentration in Action and to Learn to Meditate

Sit comfortably with a straight spine. With the four fingers of the right hand, feel the pulse on the left wrist. Place the fingers lightly in a straight line so that you can feel the pulse in each fingertip. Focus the lightly closed eyes at the brow point (between the eyebrows). On each beat of the heart, mentally hear the sound SAT NAM for 11 minutes, building to 31.

Relax and Renew - Guru Rattana PhDCOMMENTS: If you don’t know how to meditate or you want to develop the ability of concentration in action, this is a beautiful technique. This is the meditation for someone who can’t meditate. It allows you to control your reaction to any situation and can bring sweetness and one-pointedness to the most outrageous and scattered mind.
