Celebrate with Guru Rattana her 80th Birthday!
Sunday July 14 at 10:00 am – 12:00 noon PDT (utc-7) followed by sharing and questions.
My 80th birthday workshop is a celebration of womanhood and the Sacred Feminine that nurtures and empowers both men and women!
In this unique workshop I will share with you significant highlights from my life story. Then we will practice together key elements from my daily sadhana and how I use my Kundalini Yoga and Meditation practice to prepare my mind and energy for the upcoming day. I outline the basic themes at the end of this blog.

This blog is all about Cancer themes, which are relevant to all of us. We can tap into many gifts and powers, when we are able ‘to deal’ with who we are.
The Cancer Mother
The Cancer archetype is the most feminine sign of the zodiac. However, its receptive and initiatory qualities can be strategically used by both men and women. Never underestimate the power of Cancer energy. Both the Dali Lama and Nelson Mandela are Cancers. Being a cardinal sign, Cancer initiates, takes action, and is a leader in the creative process.
Cancer is about birthing, nurturing, and protecting our precious and vulnerable physical life so that it can not only come into existence, but can thrive and evolve. The Cancer force promotes health and the natural unfoldment of our being. Cancer connects us to our roots: our family, our ancestors, Mother Earth, and the cosmic womb.
Cancer’s primal instinct is to give life. The delicate and introverted Crab is guided by
- its body’s emotional and instinctual wisdom,
- the intelligent forces of nature, and
- the creative power of the universal womb.
Cancer knows what to do and when to take action because it is tuned into our soul and the cosmic currents.
Cancer and the Moon
Cancer is ruled by the Moon, whose continually changing appearance is reflected in the constant flux of our moods, feelings, and needs.
Forever waxing and waning, the Moon reminds us of the natural rhythms of our bodies, nature, and the cosmos. Every woman is the embodiment of Mother Moon. Her menstrual cycle is attuned to the rhythm of the Moon. The Lunar ebb and flow unfolds along with the seasons. In every culture, festivals, holidays, rituals, and celebrations have been timed in sync with the lunar cycles.
When we are disconnected from the cycles of nature, we lose connection with our own rhythms. When we ignore the evolutionary cosmic patterns, we feel alone and alienated from non-physical reality. Limited by a linear relationship with time and a materialistic approach to life, we suffer a deep ennui. We feel separated from the nurturing presence of the life force provided by the Earth Mother and the Great Goddess. We can regain a sense of contentment, wholeness, unity, and kinship with all life when we are able to connect directly in our bodies in feeling awareness with the sustaining force of the Sacred Feminine.
Cancer, the Moon, and the Sacred Feminine remind of the critical importance of
- aligning and flowing with cyclical time,
- listening to and following our instincts and intuition,
- honoring and being present to our body’s rhythms and needs,
- attuning to the seasons and the cosmic flow,
- co-creating with the evolutionary unfoldment of life,
- silently and lovingly developing our personal relationship with our body, the Earth, and the Divine Mother.
In awakened consciousness of the Cancer Mother,
- Our relationships can be mutually supportive without succumbing to co-dependency.
- We can nurture without feeling drained.
- We can balance taking care of others with taking care of ourselves.
Ceres Connects Us with Mother Love
The message from mini planet Ceres is that Mother Love is the optimal force to connect personal and social consciousness.
Ceres, currently in Cancer, orbits between Mars and Jupiter. Mars is the last personal planet, representing where and how we use our energy. (Note the sign and house placement of your Mars). Jupiter is the first ‘social’ planet, followed by Saturn. Ceres thus represents the force that creates the link or bridge between our individual consciousness and social consciousness.
Ceres symbolizes our relationship with the Earth and the Earth Mother, which supports growth and physical and emotional nurturing. Ceres in Cancer, is a double reminder that the connecting link between individuals and a peaceful and loving society is the caring energy of the Mother.
July 15 – Mars and Uranus Meet at 27° Taurus
My workshop on July 14 will facilitate our alignment with, and thus take full advantage of the meeting of Mars and Uranus, which happens only every two years.
When a faster personal planet (Mercury, Venus, Mars) or social planet (Jupiter and Saturn) line up with an outer, slower planet (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), we can benefit from a force that obliges us to change, make choices, and initiate something new.
Mars conjunct Uranus can catalyze sudden breakdowns or breakthroughs (or both together). Taurus healing is about resolving issues related to self-value, finances, security, and our relationship with nature. We may get clear about what we want and need and be ready to take action. This welcome clarity can propel us to make a long awaited decision.
Mars moves us to take action. Uranus connects us with nonlinear time and space. We can tune into life changing insights, and opportunities can magically appear.
New information, options, and choices are continually becoming available. Always stay tuned.
We can feel more courageous, passionate and assertive. But the Mars-Uranus force can also trigger anger, impatience, and make us aggressive. It is wise to wait a few days and not take precipitous action. Let the old fall away. Make some space for something new. Releasing old patterns and fears will set the stage for an unexpected bonus or a surprise outcome.
My Home Sweet Home – My Body
Cancer is about creating a healthy physical home and environment. But too often over looked is the critical job of creating a healthy emotional environment in our physical body.
When something happens (which it always does) our most common reaction is to escape in our mind. We are wired to avoid feeling the energy of our emotions in our body. Instead of staying present to what we are feeling and letting the energy flow and transform, we interrupt this natural process with thinking.
Our thinking mind wants to ‘identify the problem,’ find a solution, and fix it. The mind is constantly in problem/crisis management mode.
Our emotional body wants to escape, avoid feeling uncomfortable in our body, not have to deal with physical reality, and be taken care of.
Cancer awakening requires learning how to not push others or ourselves over the edge with our emotional neediness and reactions. Cancer is about learning how to feel safe, nourished, and at home in our bodies. Cancer is about relaxing and trusting the flow of our own life.
Neutral and Navel
We practice Kundalini Yoga and Meditation to be able to deal with our emotional reactions and use our mind to serve us. There are several basic steps that we integrate into our daily practice.
- We access our neutral mind so we are able to neutrally observe and distance ourselves from our stories.
- We keep our navel center strong so we can disengage, stay in our center, and have boundaries.
- With this foundation in our mind and body, we can feel safe to feel the emotional charge in our body and allow the flowing currents to transform as they enliven our being.
The above practice is a subtle and on-going process to ‘be here now in our body’. We are learning to use our vital life force energy to awaken, stay tuned to, and feel the energy of our soul in our body. What we feel is how we project into the world. The nature of our energy determines what we attract, how we manifest, and our ability to find pleasure and satisfaction in the unfoldment of our life.
