5 Days in the Dark – Venus Retrograde

Venus went retrograde on October 3 at 8 degrees Scorpio. Since then Venus has been sinking lower and lower into the horizon. October 19 she merges into the glare of the setting Sun and is no longer visible.

For 5 days – October 19-23, Venus enters the underworld phase of her retrograde cycle.

When Venus and the Sun meet October 23-24, Venus is reborn.

A few days later, October 29-30, Venus returns from her journey to the underworld and reappears in the morning sky.

October 21, Venus squares Pluto, lord of the Underworld. ‘Purge’ and ‘surrender’ are key concepts in our journey to the underworld – the realm of death, rebirth, transformation, and unknown.

An Emotional Time

The deep dive Scorpio ride doesn’t end in 5 days!

October 23 – The Sun moves into Scorpio. No more masquerading or pretending in Scorpio waters. Scorpio requires honesty and to get real. Who are we at the deepest core level?

October 24 – Mercury goes retrograde in Scorpio until November 13.

October 26 – Full Moon in Taurus, The Bull confronts anything it perceives as a red flag.

Fear of the Unknown

We naturally fear what we do not know. We fear the dark, what we can’t see, what is unknown, what we do not understand. When something confronts us directly and we are visibly threatened, fear tells us to run, hide, or avoid.

But living in the Fear Matrix, we may not even aware that we are afraid, or consider this existential fear as normal. We simply avoid what registers as uncomfortable, or we live with that discomfort and feel edgy and miserable. We can’t relax or stay present and don’t know why. We are not aware that we are enveloped in a bubble of fear.

When our psyche is consumed by an unidentifiable fear, we choose what feels safe. We don’t take risks. And we don’t explore and learn from curiosity and the quest for discovery. When we consistently retreat into what is familiar, life becomes dull and unfulfilling.

We fear loss. So don’t take a chance. We don’t fully engage in life or invest our time and energy into exploring possibilities. As a result, we don’t find out what could or cold not have been. We lose our chance to creatively interact with the unknown. In sum, we don’t allow ourselves to be vulnerable, and we don’t allow ourselves to live fully.

Being over protective goes beyond the need to feel safe. We want guarantees that aren’t available in the human journey.

When life becomes hollow, boring, and superficial, we can hear Venus and Pluto calling us into the darkness, into the unknown. We are awakening to the fact that the masks, roles, stories, and beliefs that we accepted are phony. What appeared to be true is actually fake. There is no juice, no life force in the disguises and the routine.

The heart is missing. At this time, Venus retrograde calls us to accept the inevitability of our descent into the invisible realm of the underworld. Venus holding hands with Pluto is a blessing in disguise. In Scorpio darkness, we are welcomed home to the truth that we can find only in our heart.

In the depth of darkness, we can access a knowing that we cannot know in the light. We can deal with the existential fear of death that connects us with the truth only by being vulnerable. This knowing can awaken only in the realm that we access through surrender. This is not an intellectual knowing that becomes available when we solve a problem. It is a knowing that appears when we let go of excuses and explanations. It is a knowing that is built into the fabric of our being.

This knowing brings great relief. The fear that kept us in its invisible grip dissipates and disappears. We experience an invisible, but also very palpable, Presence of Peace and Love. We can effortlessly surrender to this Presence. This is not a death where life ends. It is a death where life begins.

We find the antidote to fear, emptiness, shallowness, and disconnection.  As we leave the light of day for a while, we experience that in the darkness, we find what is holding us. We are being held in the arms of Universal Peace and Love.

Meditate on the Presence of Peace

The practice for these 5 days (and of course for our daily spiritual practice) is to

  1. Look into the dark space in your mind.
  2. Listen to the silence in this space.
  3. Keep looking and listening until you experience the quality of Peace.
  4. Keep paying attention until you feel the Presence of Peace.

Wear a blindfold that eliminates all light and earphones that cancel as much external noise as possible.

The meditation below is a great one to cultivate your experience of the above. It is on page 239 in The Power of Neutral. It is also good to do while Venus and Mercury are retrograde. There are many other meditations that hone our ability to focus on the silent space inside. During and after the practice, we must take the time to pay attention.

Also cultivate this experience after each exercise in a kriya. Don’t just jump up and expect the meditation or kriya ‘to work.’ If necessary, adjust times to include the silent space to experience the Presence of Peace. One day we will fall in love with the Presence of Peace.

Dhrib Dhristi Third Eye Meditation

Silent Meditation to Center and Balance

Sit with a straight spine, hips and shoulders in a line. Lock the tips of the front teeth together. Focus the eyes on the tip of the nose with the tongue touching the upper palate (which should occur automatically within about 1 minute). From the third eye (between the eyebrows) silently project the mantra

SA TA NA MA

Beam it out, creating an internal harmony. Coordinate the mantra with the breath. Usually one or two repetitions of SA TA NA MA are used with each inhale and each exhale. Continue for 31 minutes.

Sit quietly and be aware of a light beaming out from your third eye. Even if you don’t see it, focus and feel the energy consolidate. You will feel very centered.

COMMENTS: “Dhrib Dhristi Lochina Karma Kriya” means “the action of acquiring insight into the future.” This powerful, simple meditation was first taught on the eve of a full moon when the effects are greatest, as the subconscious mind is then fully open to its vibratory action.

Although most meditations require long periods of practice for mastery, it is possible to master this one in a single, or several, sittings because of the wide range of individual differences in practitioners and the uniqueness of the meditation.

Although the meditation should be practiced for at least 31 minutes at a sitting, the minimum (compromise) time is 15 minutes, and to master it you should practice for 1½ hours. Three hours of practice will open up your psychic capacities. But in only 3-11 minutes practice, you can go inside, tune out external distractions, and center yourself. You can do it on the bus or standing in line, or at work when you can’t be alone.

Honestly practice it for the longer times and the following things will happen: Your eyes will have the power to heal anyone. Your words will have the power to penetrate deeply. You will learn to talk inspiringly, and your words will always represent the truth of a given situation (“vacsiddhi”). You will be able to project Light sensations for healing and self upliftment. Lastly, you will know the consequences of any sequence before you engage in it.
