Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus – A New Cycle
One of the most important transits in 2024 is the much anticipated conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus at 21° Taurus, which took place April 20-21.
Uranus can bring unexpected events and disruptions in our lives, especially where 21° Taurus falls in our birth chart. What we value, finances, property, and self-worth are Taurus issues. Jupiter adds an element of good luck and is supportive in finding creative ways to benefit from life situations and to make things work better.
The combination of Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus can encourage us to explore unconventional ways to address issues related to financial security, and to experiment with new ways to manage our finances and take care of our physical health. Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus inspire us with innovative ideas and the courage to embrace change related to upgrading our well-being.
Conjunctions and Cycles
When two planets meet at the same degree, their meeting initiates a new cycle that highlights a combination of their themes. A new cycle invites us to change our attitude, reframe our approach, and do things differently.
The most significant conjunctions involve one of the outer planets – Uranus (6 years), Neptune (12 years), and Pluto (18-24 years) and one of the collective planets – Saturn (2 ½ years) and Jupiter (1 year). (Numbers indicate the number of years the planet remains in one sign.) Because these planets move slowly, they rarely meet at the same degree of the same sign.
Their meeting (conjunction) creates a cycle within which they interact. Each cycle is divided into four stages.
- Beginning of a New Cycle – The first period starts at the conjunction and ends at their first square.
- Creation and Building a Foundation – The second period starts at the first square, and ends at their opposition. At the square we are at a crossroads and must decide which way to go.
- Results and Rewards – The third period starts at their opposition and ends at their last square. We reap the rewards of our efforts.
- Completion – The last quarter of their cycle starts at the last square and ends at their next conjunction. This is the end of the cycle.
A New 14-Year Cycle
Jupiter and Uranus meet every 14 years, in different signs of the zodiac and thus in different areas of our birth chart. Their last meeting was in 2010-2011 in Aries.
The last time they met in Taurus was in 1941. For those born after 1941, this is our first (and only) Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus in our lifetime.
Endings
A conjunction is simultaneously an ending and a new beginning. As one 14 year cycle closes, a new one is initiated. Cycles flow into each other. New themes often appear before the new cycle ‘officially’ begins and offer hints into our future.
It is useful to review the last few years from the perspective of an ending of a cycle. This can be especially useful when we have experienced a sense of frustration around things not working the way they did previously. Or maybe we have tried some new things that didn’t take off the way we had hoped. In the new cycle these efforts may be a foundation for an expansion or a new adventure.
A good way to end a cycle and to begin a new one is to be grateful for what we have accomplished. We can also
- identify what we want to leave behind,
- what we have outgrown, and
- what no longer serves us.
- We can clear our slate to welcome in something new.
2020 was the beginning of the end of the last cycle. A basic message for our collective structures is that they are not working well and restructuring is necessary. For us personally, it is time to move in a different direction and operate in a different way.
Beginnings
Although Jupiter and Uranus are initiating a new cycle, what happens around the time of the conjunction may go unnoticed or not be given much importance. But pay attention. Even a casual occurrence can be a seed that sets the stage for a new chapter in our lives. We may not see them, but the seeds for long-term transformation are being planted.
A conjunction is similar to a new moon. A seed is planted that will sprout and grow over the next 14 years. Nothing obvious may manifest right away. It will take time for our flower to bloom. Don’t expect a big miracle, but watch for small miracles that indicate that something new is transpiring.
Also notice a change in attitude. Our perspective may expand, causing us to outgrow certain beliefs that we no long deem relevant or true. A new theme may unfold a transformative process.
If we have planets or angles within a few degrees of 21° Taurus, something may happen the day of, or within weeks of the exact day. A decisive event can change our life in a dramatic way. For many, the ‘event’ will go unnoticed now, but come to our attention later.
I checked back for all the previous Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions in my life and noticed that each one corresponded to a major new phase. For me, there was an event that was the cornerstone of a distinctive period in my life, that began and developed during that time.
Reflecting on Previous Cycles
You may wish to reflect on what was going on in your life during and after the previous Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions listed below. Was there an event or inner shift that helped (or forced) you take a leap into the unknown and venture into new territory?
This Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus has a similar breakthrough-type of energy, but it will impact a different sector of your life. You can locate the house or houses in your birth chart that have the following zodiac rulers.
1954-55 – Cancer
1968-69 – Libra
1983 – Sagittarius
1997 – Aquarius
2010-11 – Pisces
Historically, Jupiter and Uranus alignments have given birth to groundbreaking developments that have changed our perception of what’s possible and shaped history through extraordinary events, i.e. the Moon landing, the Internet, and quantum physics.
The Awakener and the Expander
Uranus is called the Awakener because it jolts us into a new reality. Uranus shakes us up by removing things things from our lives that we have outgrown. We may not be aware that we have outgrown them and resist or complain. But whether we like what happens or not, the Universe, not our ego and personal wishes, is in charge.
We can’t plan or predict Uranian events because they come as surprise, shocks, and breakthroughs. They happen out of the blue. And we can’t know for sure the results. We can be open, but trying to define or control our expectations is not viable.
Jupiter expands what it touches, so Jupiter will amplify Uranian themes of change, innovation, transformation, and liberation. Under the Jupiter-Uranus influence, we can have huge breakthroughs. Jupiter and Uranus invite us to do what we have never done before and to go where we have yet to visit.
Our Teachers
The Jupiter archetype represents higher knowledge. The Uranus archetype represents the universal mind, knowledge that we download from the cosmos. Both help us see our life from a wider perspective. With an expanded mind, we can find solutions to what seemed to be unsolvable problems. The pieces of the puzzle start to fit together. We can be catapulted out of stuckness, as we become aware of different options and scenarios. We can make bold new choices.
We can break free from what no longer resonates with us. The type of change that Jupiter and Uranus ignite can be unsettling, disruptive, and exciting. The intention is for us to grow and evolve, which requires new experiences and ways for dealing with life.
Taurus
Taurus is a fixed earth sign that focuses on working with material reality. Taurus represents our personal resources – financial, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual – what we have that we can use to live our life and take care of ourselves. Taurus represents our energy, time, resources, and effort that we have available, and how we choose to use the above.
What are we able and willing to invest in to create a good life for ourselves? Taurus is about identifying how we create value and prosperity from our resources. Taurus helps us identify how we create value that yields prosperity and all forms of abundance and well-being. The Bull advises us to invest in what matters most to us and what we want to create long-term.
The good news is that Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus offer us an expanded perspective, along with problem solving insights, that help us understand what we can do to create value that is based on who we are, and our soul desires and aspirations.
Jupiter in Taurus gives us a confidence boost, that inspires us to believe in ourselves and our ability to provide well for ourselves. Uranus helps us discover new opportunities that relate to our unique talents and enhance our resources.
We are not being offered an easy fix with money falling from trees. We are walking through the door of a new 14-year cycle.
We are engaging in a structural shift that evolves over time. We are modifying our direction and steering our life in a way that will set the course for our future.
Autonomy and Breaking Free
Taurus embodies our sense of autonomy and strives to be self-sufficient. As a fixed sign, Taurus stands its ground. Taurus teaches us that to find inner contentment our actions and decisions must be rooted in our deepest heart-felt values. Our inner Bull reminds us that we are the only one who knows what is right for us. No one can tell the Bull what to do or how to live its life. A breakthrough happens when our inner Bull stands up for itself.
It is time to break free. The door to the past and old ways is closed. We must walk through a new door. Mars and Saturn in favorable aspect to Jupiter and Uranus give us an extra push to take action. We may get some help and encouragement from friends and allies to step out of our comfort zone and embrace new opportunities as they present themselves. Maybe what we considered our comfort zone is no longer comfortable!
Mercury going direct on April 25 helps us move forward.
Scorpio Polarity Partner
As the polarity pair of Taurus, Scorpio energy is always lurking to challenge us to confront our fear of moving forward. The full moon in Scorpio on April 23, brought to light less obvious, hidden ways that our fears, attachments, anger, and resentments hold us back from embracing change. We must identify and deal with the emotional baggage that is preventing us from breaking free and welcoming in new possibilities.
The full moon is squared its own ruler Pluto, which intensified the emotional impact. We can feel overwhelmed by an unknown future and our ability to ride the wave of change. We may question both our goals and our worthiness.
With Scorpio as a pivotal player, we have to dig deep to get to our core strength, to our deepest knowing that – even though life can be a roller coaster ride, every twist and turn takes us to a more meaningful and authentic place than we have been before.
As we witness the cosmic play through the dance of the planets, we get in touch with the truth that nothing is random, and the promise that every cosmic event brings meaning, guidance, and deeper understanding of ourselves and our life path.
Two qualities that underpin our success and evolution are self-trust and self-loyalty. Under the influence of Scorpio and Pluto, we strive to embody these very important qualities. The tenacity of the fixed signs (Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius) make it possible to weather the storms of life and remain steadfast to what matters most to us.
Conclusion
With the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus, something is being up-leveled in our life. But we have to tap into the energy and work with it. This in an invitation, not a free lunch. As we recognize opportunities, we have to seize them. We have to say ‘Yes.’
The less conscious we are, the less choice we have. We can’t change what we can’t see. What we don’t see in ourselves, we project on others. The blame, victim game continues. The more conscious we become and align with the energies at play, the more empowered we are to navigate our the shifting sands of reality effectively. Self-awareness of what we feel in our body is key.
To reassess our core beliefs and reorder our priorities, we have to realize our intrinsic self-worth, clarify our values, and be able to think for ourselves. To do so, we have to get in touch with who we are . We have to find our anchor within, with what can’t be taken away – our inner light, our soul, and our oneness with Source.
In my next Zoom workshop you will get in touch with your inner light that doesn’t waver against either internal or external disturbances. Learn now to cultivate your inner flame and keep it burning.
